The Copa-Cogeca ad hoc Working Party on Research and Innovation held its latest meeting at Brussels, on June 4, 2018.
Dr. Marianos presented the concept of the DataBio project, its pilots and the respective mature applications, focusing on the Greek pilots with farmers and demonstrating how Copa-Cogeca members, namely farmers and their cooperatives can benefit from the project results. In this context, he presented the exploitation of earth observation data along with other types of data for smart farming, CAP support and agricultural insurance services.
The presentation was well accepted by the audience, with representatives from Italy and Spain showing a special interest. The questions that followed the presentation focused on the data and technologies used in the context of the pilots, and more specifically the Sentinel data used by the Earth Observation-based services.
Copa-Cogeca was established in 1962 as a joint Secretariat of Copa and Cogeca, making it the biggest and most active lobby organisations in Brussels. It currently represents about 23 million European farmers and family members and 38,000 European agricultural cooperatives. Copa-Cogeca aims at defending the general interests of agriculture, maintaining and developing relations with EU-institutions & representative organisations at EU level. It has direct communication with the European Commission, the European Parliament and the EU Council, in order to ensure that the voice of farmers and their cooperatives is heard at these high-level bodies.
